Mature, dependable, responsible, professional longhaul driver with over 700,000 miles driven and exceptional work ethic and desire to maintain a safe work environment along our interstate highways. I'm willing to stay out as long as 4-6 weeks at a time and I'm ready to start ASAP. My problem is I was convicted of transporting illegal aliens in my truck (felony) and served 10 months in Federal Prison. I've renewed my CDL and I'm ready to resume my trucking career! All I need is a chance...........Hopefully somebody out there in cyberspace will see this and contact me at gracetransport@yahoo.com THANKS IN ADVANCE.........God Bless! |

I too am having a hard time finding anyone out there in the trucking industry to give me a break. I was convicted in 2003 for obtaining prescription drugs by fraud x2 and served almost 2 years in Mississippi prison. I have been out since November 2005 and maintained steady employment and am no longer on any type of probation. I never failed any drug test while on probation and I recently graduated from truck Driving school. If society isn't willing to give a rehabilitated felon a chance at a life to suceed and be productive this is a reason why so many people give up and end back up in prison somewhere. |

People really don't understand how hart it is to find a truck driving job. So many people have certifications and no job. Fortunately, for me I was able to go to a site specifically for truck driving jobs that helped me a lot. They were able to place me quickly and effeciently. By the way,I love his page! Its a good way for all truck drivers to connect and help one another. Great page!!! |

Depending on the state that you're in, you may be able to file a discrimination complaint against a company that refuses to hire you because you have one or more felonies. Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, New York, Massachusetts, California and some other states have laws that prohibit employers from denying a job just because of a criminal record. The laws vary from state to state, and some allow for no-hire in cases where there's a direct connection between the conviction and the position you're applying for (e.g. a person convicted of embezzlement couldn't be a bank teller, a drug seller couldn't be a pharmacist, etc.). All the ones I know of allow for damages (lost wages, mental anguish, etc.) and "must hire" orders against companies that discriminate. The states that have these laws are very aggressive in enforcing them when you use them right--I've seen awards over $100k. You can also file complaints federally with the Equal Opportunity Employment Commission. Under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, the EEOC has held that discrimination on the basis of a criminal record is unlawful because it disproportionately impacts minorities. But you don't have to be a minority to file a conviction-discrimination EEOC complaint. Lots of trucking companies wrongly assume that DOT regulations let them not hire people with felonies under a certain age. The regulations they think allow it are a bit circular, and I don't have time to explain in detail right now. But basically, if you were convicted, got out, and then got your CDL, your state wouldn't have given you your CDL unless you were OK. Once you have your CDL, there's only a few things you can do to lose the privilege. See 49 CFR §§ 391.15 and 383.51 if you want to look it up in more detail. If you haven't been "disqualified" by getting a new conviction, and a company won't hire you cuz of your record, they're an easy target for a discrimination complaint. |
