Do some companies pay a lot more for this position than others? What does a top earner make in this field?

What skills should you learn to increase your salary?

From auditing various companies in America I have found that typically a CFO makes around $100,000 a year, before benefits. I've met some that make over 5 million, with out adding benefits, but these are rare cases, and those companies seem shaky to me.

Skills that help are your CFA, CFP, CPA, MBA and networking(most important!)

CEO's tend to be good at networking, and from my experience, once a CEO you can always get a job no matter how badly you tank the previous company.

Hope this helps.
