Are jobs in this industry on the rise? Are there any sub-sectors that are growing? Where are the jobs? Which places have the most cics systems programmer opportunities? |

The cics systems programming positions are still available, but as cics becomes more stable the roll of the cics systems person will change to a MVS system programmer. So make certain you change along with the changing times. As the mainframe outsources other companies, there will be a some reduction of the Mainframe systems programmer. The mainframe will grow but not necessarily the labor supply. I would never start a career as a systems programmer at age 20 or 30 years of age. Cics systems person for 19 years. converted to Client Server software programmer.

One of the main functions of a CICS Systems Programmer is to assist applications programmers. The talent level of applications programmers has declined in the past few years. They write bad code, they cause system abends, and they are unwilling or unable to read a transaction dump. If the z/OS systems programmer takes over CICS, he can inherit holding applications programmers hands too. |
