It is a hard, understaffed and underpaid job.If people knew this before they went to school, they wouldn't.In places like florida where it is a simple job,but pays only $9-$10 hour many minoritys are taking these jobs.Businesses also receive tax breaks to hire minoritys. When you have the choice of working fast food or nursing homes, nursing homes win out.If everyone refused to take a job that is low paying and understaffed,Nursing homes would have no choice but to raise pay and properly staff.Perfect is 2 cna's working in unison for every 10 total care residents. So keep putting the TRUTH out there about the cna bizz.

juanita in Burke, VA said: you can make as much as $20 PER HOUR IN NORTH CAROLINA AS A CNA WORKING PRIVATELY. MOST CLIENTS PAY FROM $16-$20 PER HOUR TO THE AGENCIES AND THEY IN TURN PAY US FROM $7.50-$9.00 PER HOUR. SO THE BETTER WAY TO GO IS PRIVATE, BUT THAT MEANS NO BENEFITS

you are PAYING for the benifits so how is it a benefit??

A CNA is a non-medical personal. When you start dealing with taking blood, ect you are something else with the added job of cna.In this employers market people are given the work of 2-3 people. To get a medium pay job you need many job skills.CNA's are overwhelmed by low staffing and overwork already. No matter the pay wage it is a dangerous thing to spread workers to thin.I expect many mistakes and deaths of residents in the end.

It's better money and so is working for Hospice. Good Luck

mrs weaver hello im stacy and i was hoping you could tell me a little about PCT i have a cna license already and wanting to make a little extra cash would appreciate it if you could help me out thanks

Carolinagirl1112 in Wake Forest, North Carolina said: 2 weeks of training? Wow, I guess the rules in your state must be totally different. I took CNA classes full time (Tues-Fri) for an entire month. The written state exam was fairly simple, but the skills test was not. I know that states vary, but here in NC, you are given 5 skills that you must perform perfectly, and you don't know what they are until 30 seconds before your test begins. If you miss one critical step on one task, you fail the whole thing. Not everybody got their CNA the easy way!

NURSING (LPN RN) WAGES AND CONDITIONS IN NORTH CAROLINA ARE PATHETIIIICC!!!! TRY $14.-17. AN HOUR..WTF??!!

The south never rose again after the civil war.Their profit was in slavery. Now they treat all workers as low wage workers. In florida it used to be cheap to live,so we didn't mind the poor wages, but now with rents going up we can't afford to work or live there. You can be less experienced and less intelligent to work in the south.Less is expected of people there.Up north you must have a good work ethic ,intelligent and willing to work 2-3 jobs under one lable.CNA's are also the med cart workers with a one day med class and the pay is only $11 a hour in minnesota. In most states a CNA is a non-medical person. With corporations taking over the business, cheap and profit is their only motivation.

In florida you can take a 2 week class and pass the test. The written part a child could pass. The skills you can study and practice till they become easy. There was a video on utube with the skills.Just watching that helped a lot.It is nerves that make the test hard.

Why should anyone take your advice when your spelling is so atrocious. I guess they'll let anyone be a CNA.

Why do people get so upset over misspelling ? No spell check here.It is nice some people have a positive feeling about things, but we need to be honest about our experiences.

Regina in Hamlin, West Virginia said: Honestly, I do agree, Fact is that a CNA is the one busting their butts, while a RN sits in a chair and sleeps or sits on her butt in a chair all night, and huffs and puffs when she/he has to get up and walk down a hallway to give someone their meds, pathetic, I do realize that RN school is a long process, but it takes more to being a nurse than sticking your nose in a book, honestly, I do think that Before you become a nurse you should start off as a cna for a couple of years before you can get your license...Then maybe you would respect the fact that a cna works harder than any one of you nurses....thanks

I agree 100% about becoming a CNA before becoming an RN! I am a CNA/PCT in a hospital in Austin, TX, and I just started nursing school last semester. I work in the ICU, and all the RNs up there are very helpful--they let me practice sticking them and drawing blood when we get down-time, and are always teaching me something new. Becoming a CNA before becoming an RN is an excellent way to gain experience for your future career. Said experience will also look great when it's time to update that resume! As far as money goes, I just started my CNA position a month ago.(lucked out and got a hospital job with no experience) They started me at $13/hr, and allow me all the overtime I can handle. I'm on call today--getting paid $5 an hour just to keep my cell phone in my pocket. If they call me in during the next 12 hours, I'll get 40 cents per mile for driving, a $25 call bonus, and time & a half pay the whole time I'm there for the duration of the shift.
I really love my job. Not the best pay, but it's enough to get me by until I become an RN. If I sign an 18 month contract with the hospital after becoming an RN, they will reimburse me for the cost of the nursing program!
