Tanya in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin said: Wow I have beed working as a CNA for 13 years and have worked in man different places, and yes it is a hard job and yes sometimes you do work with lazy nurses but your attitude sucks!! It is not a "thankless" job, Not everyone is cut out to do this kind of work you have to really care about others and want to help people even if they don't always seem thankful! I have worked with people like you and they never make it maybe you should look for a job that does not involve taking care of there people by the way working in physical therapy is just as hard!!!!! You are the kind of person that I would not want to take care of one of my family members!!

And you know this how? Are YOU a PT?

Typical nose-in-the-air CNA. Don't think for one minute that you're better than anyone else just because you happen to like your job. Because guess what, honey? You're not.

I have recently gotten my CNA liscense as well and can only find part-time work. Very few hours, lots of driving and NO benefits. I would love to do in home care and not work for a company.

Finding a CNA job sometimes is not an easy process, especially if you do it for the first time. You have neither references nor experience so it may take a while. Be patient and you will get a fulltime CNA job you may like better.

How many of you actually put in the accredited hours and clinical rotation hours? Here in Connecticut, you need 75 accredited hours and 100 hours of clinical rotation. Sitting in class and taking quizzes and notes is not enough. Also, most people are becoming CNAs due to unemployment and nursing shortages. What they don't realize is that 'nursing shortage'does not apply to all jobs with 'nurse' somewhere in the title. We need LPNs and RNs, as well as nursing educators. CNA training and jobs are relatively easy to get compared to other nursing jobs, and with high unemployment rates, everyone in need of a job immediately rushed to get CNA certification. I think we have too many CNAs now. I have several friends that wasted valuable time and money pursuing CNA certification that they ultimately never used because they just couldn't find jobs.

To Matthew: I do not believe the spelling is the actual problem. It is easy to throw out these things as a possible cause but in reality the problem seems to be much deeper.
I do believe from what I've read not only on this thread but many others that there seems to be a rather large percentage of ppl that have this "Can't Do" attitude. Many of us started off with no experience whatsoever and we managed to go from no experience to at the very least have some experience.
Here are a few points that have helped me when I started out. Maybe they are helpful.
1. Make sure to have professionals listed as your reference. That can be a Teacher, Preacher or previous employer of whatever field. If you list friends it could be a turn-off for some companies.

2. No matter how bad your past working experience has been ALWAYS have something positive to say. Keep in mind, no matter how bad the experience, any experience is a good one because you've learned from it.

3. Go check some sites that have interview questions for CNA's and best way to answers them. (Trust me... you will be suprised)

4. Be humble, be willing to take in any critism and use it towards any future endeavors.

I am going to ADORE being a COTA. I absolutely HATE being a CNA. And you're right...the nurses are rude and lazy, and the administration is clueless. I should have went back to Starbucks and slung more coffee for a while, at least I would have been happy (and paid well).

You're an idiot, there are rude unappreciative people anywhere you work, not just in a nursing home. In fact you might end up working in a nursing home or in a facility that also uses those big mean nurses you're complaining about, you're the one who sounds lazy complaining about doing hard work!

How dare you tell someone they are lucky they can not find a job, you sound like a low class trashy person and any problems you had at work were probably caused by you, i'm sure it was you who was lazy not the nurses. You don't do a job for thanks you do because you enjoy it and should do it to the best of your ability not half a$$ it like you probably do.

Oh, shut up, moron. For your info, I have worked in SNFs, LTC, and ALFs and they are all hell. I've also worked outside of health care, and yes, there are rude, unappreciative people everywhere. But the nursing field is by far the worst. The most evil, cruel people that I have ever dealt with. You sound like a clueless, fresh-faced CNA "graduate" (I use the term loosely because you don't even need a GED. No wonder they're so miserable) who knows nothing about the job. Come back to me in 2 years when you have something intelligent to say.

I got my training and license in KY then transferred the license to IN and had a job a month before my transfer ever went through...smaller nursing homes are more likely to hire new cnas because they can keep better tabs on you but its all about the interview,,,,have you helped care for your grandparents? what drew you to this line of work? they want to know that you became a cna because you truely wanted to help people not because "the medical field is booming" its all about your ability to connect with their residents as you fill out the application or wait on an interview if someone approches you strike up a conversation you never know who is watching and will be amazed by your ability to build rapport!

I've had my CNA license for almost three years and I did clinicals with my school for experience, I worked in a nursing home and took care of my grandparents daily before they passed away and helped my mom after she got her hip replaced. Hospital jobs are hard to get but you can try clinics they hire with little to none experience so you can get your year experience for a hospital. Also I volunteer at a hospital and got to know people who could help me get into a CNA job.

I would suggest applying at nursing homes and assisted living facilities. These types of facilities are required to have a certain number of CNAs on staff per number of licensed beds. The larger facilities should have solid demand for hiring new CNAs frequently. You can vie current CNA job openings here typesofnurses.net/CNA-Jobs/

Well, isn't this a happy coincidence? I'm actually quitting my crappy CNA job in 2 weeks :) I got a way better job with more respect, more pay, and best of all...I'll never be a CNA ever again! So no, HONEY. My superior is not kicking me to the curb, I'm dumping them. Right on their asses.

I'm finished with this ghetto "career." So if any unemployed CNAs out there want my pathetic little pocket-change job, there will be a new opening in Daytona Beach. Best of luck.

In Az there are so many scams to get youto pay for the classes. Dont believe the lies i got taken at dental assisting school and could not find work anywhere they all want to hire friends or others in the other offices. Its the same in CNA work. Or they hire the illegals for low pay. Tel them you have experiance and or go to Living assisted facilities.

I happen to know for a fact that there are jobs out there. I have been trying to hire aides for the past half of year. When I do get someone hired they do not want to work. So if you are really wanting to work...then you can get a job. I have at the very least 4 open positions at all times. I would love to find some hardworking people with good ethics. I have even tried hiring right out of cna class with no experience.

I can b!tch all I want, dollface. Especially since I went to school full-time and worked as a CNA full-time (11-7, no less), and now I work as an OT. I do make my living. I make a very good one. And this job is FAR more rewarding than CNA drudge work, and it gets FAR more respect.

You know why else I get to b!tch? I got off my butt and made something of myself. I'd rather die than ever work as a CNA again. I moved on and NEVER looked back.

With that being said, I think I'll "go to work," as you suggested, and make my living. You quit bitching about our bitching, and go make your lunch money.
