tawanda smith in Saint Louis, Missouri said: i would like to inquire about cna classes in a hospital or nursing home while emplopyed by the company Hi Tawanda, I have worked in long term care before . The only thing I can think of that would be a negative about working in the nursing home and having the nursing home train you to get your CNA is that you are beholden to them. Meaning........if you see anything negative going on there or do not like the nursing home, if you quit....you are back to square one. Or if they terminate your employment, and you had not finished your CNA training.....you would be back to square one. Also, not all nursing homes have a CNA training program. If you pay for your CNA at a technical school....you have a little more control over where you get to do your internship/clinical hours. You have to pay, but.........it depends on how you feel on these issues. If you are having issues with the nursing home when you are paying for the course, you could let your school know and get another placement. In Missouri whatever you decide, if you pursue your CNA at a technical school, just make sure it is an approved state program. If not, it will not be recognized by the state. This website shows the approved CNA programs at schools: dhss.mo.gov/safety/cnaregistry/pdf/CNAApprovedTA.pdf Best wishes! |

Jessica of Indiana in Seymour, Indiana said: In the near future I plan on going to school for my LPN. I want to start with getting my CNA liscense. How do you get certified without having to be employed with a company for example a nursing home and not taking online courses or having to take a year course? Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. I believe after your first quarter in LPN school your able to take the state board for CNA. I'm not sure of all the details so call the school or program director for details |

Just wanted to let everyone know the AARP says the government is lowering Nursing Home standards. That means as bad as conditions are now,low staffing, low pay and bad care for residents,it will be much worse. With a broke government they are cutting care for those that don't pay taxes. The elderly, children and the poor. |
