I have never had a job as a cable installer, but want to get into the business. If I were to go out and get a installer certification (Jones/NCTI), would this help me land a job without any "hands on" experience? I just need to get my foot in the door.

Typically someone can get a job as a Cable Technician (Employee) with a Cable Contractor with little or no experience. Most of the training is done in the field after you are hired and if a certification is required (usually on by the Cable Company) then they will provide that training. Although the Jones/NCTI training is very good, and beneficial to you as a technician, I would not recommend paying for it out of pocket until you have landed the job. Hope this helps and good luck in your job search!
