How did you get your start doing cable technician work, and what career moves did you make to get to your current position? Do you need a particular educational background? |

I had a vocational degree in electronics. It helps if you have a background in electronics, automotive, or construction if you are looking to get hired. |

It is best to get as much experience doing all the s#@t work, that is my claim to fame. If you go in, and tell them(potential new employer), that you WANT all the work that nobody else wants to do, I tell them i am like a fly in s#Cable Technician, I thrive in it. Do your best, be honest, drink coffee, smoke cigarettes, and take your time to do it right the first time. NO MATTER how s#^tty it is, do not proceed to the next, until your are completely confident that you would be happy with the quality of work as if it were in your house, and you are more than happy to have anything spotchecked. And you dont mind at all because you KNOW you have done your best, and since we are human, we can and will make mistakes, although they should be a rarity due to the patience and time it took to do it right, and go over each connection, and fully test, you are not completed until you know it tests good. Dont touch the labels, leave it to a professional. Toners are used to test inferior installers labeling scheme. Work every hour they have available, you really dont make any money until you get to the overtime. And save some, you dont want to work forever do you - take the time(years) to understand confidently your retirement. Good luck, |
