Is there anyone out there that hauls for Fleet Car Carriers? How do you like working for them? Do you drive your own truck or someone elses? How good is the pay? What kind of truck/carrier do you have?

Run away from Fleet Car. I worked for Fleet Car for about 6 years, out of their Port Newark, NJ terminal. The bottom line is that they don't pay enough. They say that they are only taking 15%, but there skimming off the top first. Between Fuel, tolls, repairs and getting robbed by Fleetcar, there was just not enough left at the end. You would be much better off working under your own authority. They also have forced dispatch which completly pissed me off. It's my truck that I pay for 100%. I should be able to take it anywhere I want. If it is your turn to pick work on a slow day and all thats left is an 8 way delivery to Alaska that pays nothing, guess what, you either have to go to Alaska or you cant pick work the next day or maybe the next week as punnishment. I have learned the hard way that being under my own authority is the only way to thrive in this business.

Thanks for the information. I have a contact in MO that has two trucks with drivers that do short hauls for one of Fleets locations. They have worked with Fleet for about 6 yrs. Maybe they have not given me all the details of what Fleet is taking in costs...not sure. I was interested in short hauls as well. I have a 3/4 car hauler. I was trying to decide whether to go with Fleet or get my own authority. I have looked into my own authority, and I was mainly looking at Fleet due to upfront costs with insurance mainly.

DWAG 007 why do you say that? Did you work for them and have bad experience? My contact who works for them seems quite content....but I wanted to talk to others who have worked for them or know someone who has?

Fleet Car is a great company. We were O/O for ourselves for a while. What a pain in the A__. Fleet car handles all the paperwork and everything else with the business. SOOOO worth paying them 15%. We stay loaded and dont have to deal with personal vehicles. Teams can do 20,000.00 to 30,000.00 every 2 weeks. Depending on how hard YOU want to work.So all you haters out there, go somewhere else. More cars for us to move!!!

Hey, thanks for some positive feedback. I am looking to haul with a Freightliner M2. Fleet is requiring air brakes on the trailer, not matter what size, so that is why using the Freightliner. I am trying to decide on trailer, whether 3/4 or 5 car. I will be doing regional 4 states in mid-atlantic. Is it better to go with the larger trailer, and pull more cars for fleet? Will it actually increase my profits? Any suggestions?

What is a reasonable cost to get started in hauling cars? Do you need a CDL?

Hey guys. Does fleet allow you to haul with a dually, I did catch the comment on air brakes so I'm guessing no. Can someone post their website? Or where they're out of? Thanks.
