Hello, I have about nine years of experience in telephone fundraising. The experience is not progressive. I have had a hard time advancing in my current position and feel I have gone as far as I can go in my current position. Recently, I received an alumni newletter stating that there have been some promotions made at my former college. I realized that there is a fundraising coordinator positon/ director assistant position that could possibly be open. I sent an email inquiring about the position and got a reply back stating that there is an opening but the positions requirments have not been "ironed out yet." It seems I may have asked about the position too early. I was told to send my resume so it will be on file when the jobs requirments are set. I have a few questions for whoever is willing to help. First, I have been told several times that I do not have a strong resume. So, what can I do to make my resume shine among what I can only imagine will be a sea of other applicants. Also, within this resume how do I make my limited skills and work experience work for me? Also, should I send them a resume immediatly or should I try to start a dialogue in order to influence the people who are hiring for this position. As I have mentioned, they don't have all the criteria "ironed out." Is there a way I can influence that and if so how? Also, I am considering taking a class on nonprofit management. Even if I do take this class, I will most likely not be able to finish before it could be benefitial on my resume. So, should I take the class and at least have class experience even if I don't have work experience and even if I don't get the job? I know this is a lot but I am stuck in my career journey. Can someone help me to get back on track? |
