I have been a carpenter for over 12 years and learned everything I know on the job. Though In the 90's there was a huge housing boom until early 2000 with all the sub prime mortgages given out and I would go job to job in the Twin Cities and tell the framing crews I knew what I was doing. After getting fired from a few jobs for not knowing enough I finally gained enough knowledge to hold a position as a carpenter. I believe that is the best way to learn "School of hard nocks" on the job training. Now there does not seem to be too much work out there, These contractors are ripping skilled carpenters off with these crappy wages due to the shortage of work. Anyway, my suggestion is goto college!! I don't think there will ever be as much work as there was in the 90"s for quite some time. Good Luck !! |

Your lucky to be getting $19 an hour. Seems in Northern MN, Duluth area. These contractors are trying to offer $9- maybe $14 an hour. |
