I have first hand experience with this problem and I'm gonna do some thing about it. I was out of work for about a year and a half. Finally got on with a company that was just joining the union in Chicago. I worked with them for about seven months with the promiss of running work and all that BS if I looked the other way about the scab business they were doing. I layed out the entire job, layed out the other trades to make the job run smoothly. They paid sometimes payroll checks but mostly personal checks. Then they started subing out the work to illegals, drywall, taping, doors, etc. Watch all my work disappear. Told I would be one of the last people on the job. Illegals were there longer than me. Thet just used me because I was the only person that could read blueprints. I just want you guys to know that Im going to burn this company to the ground. Little do they know how organized I am. I am waiting to make sure I dont get a 1099 then im taking all my lnfo to the union. If the union doesnt do anything about it im taking it to fox news. This BS has got to stop. |

What David said. Before his death, my father ran his own contracting company and the surge of illegal immigrants has thrown construction and contracting businesses into complete choas. Not only do these immigrants have a severe language barrier, but many of them have no idea about building and safety codes. Neighbor of mine had a contractor sub all of his work to illegals and guess what? My neighbor attempted to sell his home and ended up having to re-do all of the work performed because it was not in code. You may at first save some money, but long term it will cost you a fortune to repair shoddy workmanship. Unless contractors and companies stop using illegals for work, people will have serious problems down the road when it comes to building and safety violations. I guarantee it. When it comes to buildings and homes, you cannot cut corners. Best of luck to you guys. |

Perhaps if it's such a problem you should report the employer to US Immigration and Customs Enforcement. |

This country has been experience problems with securing our borders for nearly 20 years now. Do you really think reporting a contractor to the Feds or the State is going to do anything? Anytime someone wants to do something about the problem with illegals, that person is immediately called a racist. Only way to fight back is not to do business with these contractors and cancel the agreement if the work is sub-out to a contractor who hires illegals without your prior approval. I have no problem with people immigrating to the US. Just come here legally and prepared to work and pay taxes like the rest of us who immigrated to the US by law, or was born here. That's not an unreasonable request. |

Of course I am not kidding. Sitting here on the internet won't stop companies from hiring illegals. It's like saying, what's the point in reporting any crime being committed because cops have other crimes to solve. It's their job to keep companies from hiring people who aren't legally entitled to work here. If people won't report them, they will keep hiring. Don't sit there and cry about it saying no one is doing anything when you won't do anything in the first place. Shopping somewhere else won't do anything to them, since there are tons of other people behind you who will still buy the product. All countries have problems with illegals, it's not just a problem here. |

dave in New York. Youre one of the cheerleaders! How about your business agent doing something, like checking out the jobs. How about E-verify. How about you goiung to heck. Two pension b.a.s sucking up as much dues from anyone they can, most from Mexico. Politicians are afraid for their lives, They know the cartels are running the U.S. This is why we need to use our armed servicemen with citizenships to protect us. You Dave go back to Mexico. |

You were suppose too report them to the union as soon as you saw that they were not complying with any kind of regulation, Federal,state,union...ect. |

These illegals have fake documentation that says they are legal. How do you, as a worker, prove this otherwise. Yes stand-up, get fired and not be able to even draw unemployment. Get real, the problems are way above the working man. We are just the ones who are getting screwed. |

By the way e verify is a joke, it not only does not solve the problem it creates it. Once the illegal find a good ss# then they are in the system. They are now a priority to keep working because as long as they stay in the system their card will be good. If they are laid off for too long they will have to re verify, so the employers, who know they are illegal, put them as a priority. As far as business agent, when ours was asked he told us that the unions cannot check a ss# only the employers can. As long as they have one, they can get into the union, whether it is good or bad. Some of you know nothing of the depth of the problem. |
