Can I work as a Medical Assistant in Ilinois if I'm not certified?

I have my MA diploma but I haven't taken the certification test. Is it possible for me to get a job as a MA, although I'm not certified?? Someone please let me know. I was just recently laid off from my job and I need to find another one fast. A job that will pay some decent money. Thanks!

yes it is possiable, you have to apply around with doc.offices that are currently hiring in your city/state. 1/2 of the m a's working now are working from their diploma ,they haven't took the certification test. at most places as long as you've completed the m.a progrom and have your diploma you are hirable.
