Hey everyone, I am currently going to school to become a CMA. I am planning to get my associates in science. My question is is it worth doing an associates for MA or should I just get my diploma? I have heard that it will be better if I just get my associates when I am trying to get a job because of competition and since they are so many MA... I plan on working as a MA to gain experience and then go back to school for RN... I love the medical field and with become MA I would see if RN is my right career choice or maybe I would fall in love with a different career and take a different route. I would love to do the RN program but right now I cant right now bc I have a son who is 1 and bc of other personal reasons. ( I had ask this in another post but no one answered my question) I know that the MA dont make a hole lot of money like RN/LPN do but I am willing to fight to get the top I just dont want to work for the money bc I would be unhappy doing something I dont love. I want a career with passion and that I know I am making a difference by helping someone. I have read some negative comments about THE MA field but didn't anyone goggle/research what they were studying before actually going to school for it. I know how far I can go and what I can do as a CMA but things dont get hand to you, you have to fight for what you want in life. Good luck to all the Future MA and stay positive bc in order to succeed you have to love what you do for a living. Thanks :) |

I HAVE BEEN A CMA FOR 7 YEARS AND WITH BEING CERTIFIED i WAS TOLD i WOULD GET PAID MORE,IT WAS A DAME LIE. MY COURSE WAS 9 MONTH AND 6 MONTH INTO MY STUDIES I WAS TOLD THAT FOR 12 MONTH I COULD HAVE DONE LVN WHICH PAY BETTER.NEVER GO TO A TRADE SCHOOL TO STUDY BECAUSE YOU CREDIT WOULDNT COUNT WHEN YOU FURTHER YOU EDUCATION,I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT TO LATE.AND WITH ASSOCIATES YOU CANT DO VERY MUCH ITS BEST TO GET UR BACHELORS. I THINK YOU SHOULD JUST STUDY LVN, YOU HAVE MORE CHANCES OF GETTING TO WORK IN HOSPITALS AND IT JUST ABOUT THE SAME COST AS STUDYING FOR MA THAT WAY IF YOU LIKE IT AND GO FOR AN RN YOU HAVE A FAIR PAYING JOB TO HELP YOU OUT INSTEAD OF A LOW PAY JOB THEN THE LOANS LAST A GOOD 6 YEARS MIGHT AS WELL GET SOMETHING WORTH THE PRICE |

The only way you will make dissent pay as an CMA is if you work for a specialist, and you have years of experience . I'm 24 and I have been in the medical field since I graduated high school back in 2003 and a year ago I went back to college to get my CMA, soon after I got a job working for a OBG/YN , I'm still their making 18.50 hr . I Know RNs make way more anyways good luck. |

I'm a certified MA and cardio Phlebotomy tech Right now I work for an OBGYN
I'm 24 and I have been in the medical field for almost 6 years now ether doing minor clinical or administrative work. I got my CMA a year ago and was hired shortly after working for an OBGYN . As an CMA I'm making the max A CMA will most likely make. The only way you will see decent pay as a CMA is if you work for a specialist and you have years of experience in the medical field or you have ether tittles or certifications under your belt .
