I've worked as a medical assistant for 10 years and recently became unemployed. In looking for a job they all want minimum 2-3 years experience (which I have) and most want CMA/RMA. I've been submitting my resume anyway highlighting my experience.

I have looked around and the only way I can sit for the test is if I go through a school. But I don't need to do that and it would be a waste of my money!

Why do employers insist on this certification? It's not required by the State of Colorado.

Any insight and advise on where/how I can test without going to school would be helpful.

Hello! If you have at least 5 solid years of experience you can sit for the RMA through the AMT.
