Hello. I live near Cleveland, Ohio. Due to lack of funds, I don't own a car and use public transportation. I'm very interested in being a nursing assistant, but don't know where there are any training classes around here. There are some nursing homes which have free training classes, but say that they're only for people that want to work in home health care/nursing homes (I'd like to possibly work in hospitals as well, so I'll need a different location) plus, being a single mother, working where I currently do, I don't have money to pay the $800 fee that some places are asking for. So, I'm asking a few questions.....1) Are there any places around, that are free/discounted? 2)Can you get any grants/scholarships for training classes? or just actual university/college classes? I'd appriciate any help that anyone can give me on this topic. Thank you very much. Tracey |

The American Red Cross on Euclid Ave offers STNA classes, if your a single mother, and make little money you can sign up to get the classes paid for. If you go to their website (type in Cleveland Red Cross on yahoo) they will give you all the information. I know you have to go to an orientation first. Also in Parma on Ridge Rd theres a Nursing Home called Pleasent Lake Villa, they offer free STNA training classes once a month. Its a first come first serve deal, you just have to go in and fill out an application. They had classes start this past Monday, but will have more next month. And the last place I know (which classes are $900 and something dollars) is the Corprate College which is a branch off of Tri-C. You might be able to get a grant through them since they are part of Tri-C. Im in the same boat as you when it comes to looking for the STNA training for free. Good luck though! |

I attended the Absolute Nurse Aid Training school in Canton, OH and I would have to say that this place is no good. The trainer is not smart and should not be teaching anyone, let alone nurse aids. Also, their website says they offer state testing in all locations, and they don't. You cannot take the state test in the Canton location. |
|
Ina in Canton, Ohio 8 months ago |
We have discussed with you that testing is offered. Many class sites do not offer testing anywhere. Ours is in a different location than the class site, but dates are set just for our students. This person had a personal problem with the instructor. She has an exstremely high pass rate with all her students. |

|
Kay in Columbus Ohio in Columbus, Ohio 7 months ago |
no free classes that i know of, but you can check with the nursing homes, some of them might pay for the class for you and some might reimburse you for what you pay for the class if you go on staff, you just need to ask them what thier policy is, good luck |

Am a student medical Missionary and would like to have more health information because I help in training people on how to use Natural solutions especially use of fresh foods for their Natural healing properties. I want to become STNA certified, but i don't have the financial means to pay the $500+ cost for the classes. I did see on here that some places offer free/financial aid to single mothers with low income. The problem I am having is that the times the classes are held I am not available(I work Mon-Fri from 3:30-7:30pm & the classes either end @4 or start @5,etc ). Does anyone know where I could go to take the classes around my availability? Thanks. |

Tracey My name is Abed, I'm one of the Recruiters here at Alia Health Career Services. I know there are several training programs in Cleveleand that offer the STNA class, but I'd like you to consider ours here in Columbus. Why would you come one-and-a-half hours away to take the class in Columbus when you can take it there? The answer is that we are so confident that you'll have a great experience at our program that we'll pay for your hotel stay for the entire 2-week class! We'll even pick you up every morning from the hotel and drop you off in the afternoon in a chauffeured limo! We call it the ALIAmousine. Yes, we're that confident about our program. If you can get down here, we'll take care of the rest. Think of it as a mini get away...study and see Columbus all in the same two weeks. Call me for more details 614*847*3617 btw

I just took my STNA exam yesterday and I know that i failed the I/O part, because our instructor told us to measure the fluids and during my skill i went to go measure the fluid and the evaluator told me i can't use it i have to eyeball it and i was way off because i wasn't trained to eyeball it. I am still waiting on my results. But in the meantime does anyone know how soon i can retake the the exam over after i failed? |

I thought I saw a comment a while back where there is an STNA program that only takes 1 week and then you have 2 days of clinicals. Does anyone in the Columbus area know of any place like that? |
|
Abed Osman, Recruiter in Columbus, Ohio 3 months ago |
First of all, don't assume you failed it; there is some degree of subjectivity involved in the grading of the skills demonstration portion of the exam--maybe your evaluator was having a "good day."

Dawn in Ohio in Akron, Ohio said: I thought I saw a comment a while back where there is an STNA program that only takes 1 week and then you have 2 days of clinicals. Does anyone in the Columbus area know of any place like that? Alia Health Career Services offers an STNA (State Tested Nurse Aide) Training Program which is a two-week (10-day) day class that meets Monday through Friday from 9am-3:30pm. Our three-week (15-day) evening class meets Monday through Friday from 5:30pm-9:30pm. At the end of both classes is a two-day, eight-hour per day clinical held on the last Saturday and Sunday of the session at a skilled nursing facility. It's a great way to begin a career ladder in the nursing field. The total price is $495.00 for either the day or evening class; no hidden fees. Along with your completed application and two forms of identification, a $100.00 deposit (cash, check or money order) will reserve your seat for the next class. The deposit will apply towards your tuition and an installment/payment plan may be arranged for the remaining balance. Required is a TB skin test which we offer for $15.00 to registering students. Also, for a uniform you'll need a set of scrubs (our colors are white top/maroon bottom) which you'll find at most department/discount stores. CPR & First Aide Certification is also available on an optional basis for a discounted price of $45.00 to registered students, $85.00 to non-registered students. Day & Evening classes form monthly. The class schedule is: July 13, July 20, August 3 To reserve your seat or for a tour please call us at 614*847*3617.
