Host said: How did you get your start doing channel manager work, and what career moves did you make to get to your current position?
I have always sold something, I started in direct sales, and I just fell into computers sales. A high energy, fun loving friend got me first job in the Channel. From there she just let me do what I do best which was listening and talk to people honestly and straight forward. I learned both parts of the Channel sales and Channel Marketing; product development, product mix, product knowledge and business strategies are key. The best path for success is to build a business for the company and the partners.
Do you need a particular educational background?
Channel training: on the job. You need to be a great mediator and anticipate the next move. Nothing but working in the Channel will provide you the experience you need. You’re a project manager, you’re a great listener, you’re a market analyst
, you’re a product life cycle specialist, you’re a trainer, you’re a seller, you’re a buyer
, you’re a strategist, you’re a pickup the phone or visitor problem solver; if you can let me know where you can get that education
I’m interested in hearing from you.
