Are jobs in this industry on the rise? Are there any sub-sectors that are growing?

Where are the jobs? Which places have the most Chief Engineer opportunities?

Growing
We are almost a thing of the Past
True generalist engineers are almost gone
those of us left are in high demand and the positions and salaries demonstrate this

Best jobs and salaries in the North East U.S.
Licensing is required, but the respect is also there
your opinion is valued over the bottom line

Hard job not for everyone but a solid career for a life time
the knowledge never goes away and you will continue to learn your entire life

Northeast U.S., I.e.: Washington D.C./Maryland/are the 2 highest paying locations.
Chief Facilities Engineers; assuming that's what your referring to, requires 1st Grade Stationary Engineers License,CFC Certification,Extensive Knowledge of HVACR, Plumbing, Electrical, Life Safety and Management Skills. Not the general Maintenance Man apartment complex stuff (no offense to anyone)...Know keep in mind it sounds like a lot but it mostly management skill related. For Example: Typical Chief Engineers in the N.E. U.S. are supervising plant/facility engineers, timecards, scheduling, site inspections, QA/QC reports & follow-ups, leading and motivating subordinates, using mechanical and as-built drawings. Working directly with Building Management/Property Managers. just to mention a few. Now AS A CHIEF ENGINEER You will be doing essentially a majority of the Building Management & Property/Site Managers work, Since you are sandwiched between Upper Management & subordinates "TRUST ME ON THIS"..The Most Highest Paid Chief Engineering Slots are in Government Contractors between $87.000 to $125.000 a year/salary. Beware Contracts don't last forever and are bided on every 1-3 years, So your flying high today as a Federal Contractor employee and collecting unemployment tomorrow..Choose wisely...Any "I Mean Any" info you need on Exam Q & A's for Stationary Engineer Test or those Interview Q & A's I have the materials you'll need "NO COST" just glad to help future engineers. Note: My interview Q & A's have answers from Top Notch Geeks, I changed the format(not the answers)to fit plant engineers/plant management jobs. Job interview Q's deal with physiological Screening Not the Job itself. undercoverbrother57@live.com
