What do you enjoy most about child life specialist work? What do you dislike the most? Is it challenging? Are there many opportunities to learn and advance?

What keeps you at your job?

Best: the rush of something different everyday, the feeling of knowing you made an actual difference in someone's life, playing with toys and knowing they have deep therapeutic meaning.
Dislike: lack of support (although there's a new Child Life magazine called Light Spinner Quarterly that gives us cool ideas for interventions and lets us know what else is going on in the field), lack of jobs!!!!
Challenging: YES. between burnout, workload and the grief associated with loss it can be tough...but if you know yourself well enough going into it, you'll be able to come out on the other side in a golden fashion.
Opportunities to learn and advance: to learn? absolutely. that relies heavily on your own ambition and curiosity though. advance? hardly.
Keep me at my job: i feel called to it. i don't know what else there is at this point, it's something inside of you.
