How did you get your start doing cisco engineer work, and what career moves did you make to get to your current position?

Do you need a particular educational background?

I would start there.

Your degree does not metter at the begining.
You can make CCNA course and then CCNP and CCIE in one of the fields and become top specialist without degree.

But for the purpose of management position I would start something part time or online (BSc or MSc course). There is a plenty of choice.

Good luck.

BTW - some of the uni offers free CCNA and MCSE courses while you studing - i.e. FdSc at Kingston University in London. Look for NTI Kingston Uni. And this model keeps repeating in other unis - you can get CCNA while studying also in Glasgow Uni i.e.

Just look and ask tutors at uni of your choice.
