Hi my name is Angelica and I am currently a Sophomore in high school. I've wanted to be a Civil Engineer since I was a little girl and I've done some research on it but not too much. I figured now is the time to really get into it!
I was hoping a credible Civil Engineer could answer a few of my questions! I'd love for a female to answer if there are any of you out there but it really doesn't matter!
Thank you :)
1. What college did you go to?
2. Have you always wanted to be a civil engineer?
3. What is your daily routine?
4. Why did you choose engineering?
5. If you had to make a To-Do List for a aspiring civil engineer
high school student, what would the top two items be?
6. What High School Classes did you take and do you use them in your work?
7. Do you love your job?
8. (if female) Have you found it easier to harder to get jobs and do well in the Civil Engineering business considering you are a woman?

1. I went to Virginia Tech for my undergraduate degree, as well as a Master's degree.
2. I have wanted to be a civil engineer since 10th grade when my dad (an architect) described what they do. I used to want to be a math teacher!
3. My daily routine depends on the project I'm working on. Since I'm early in my career, I am usually only on one project at a time. I spend most of my days running calculations, looking up things in building codes, drawing details, and asking questions!
4. I chose Engineering because I've always enjoyed and been good at math, and I wanted a practical job.
5. My top item on a To-Do list for an aspiring civil engineer would be to get into a good (ABET accredited) Engineering school and study hard! Getting good grades may not matter 30 years from now, but they SURE help in getting good jobs!
6. I took physics and calculus in high school. I use concepts from physics on a daily basis, and occasionally even calculus! I definitely used both in college.
7. I do love my job! Its very challenging but rewarding.
8. I do not feel like I've ever been treated differently because I'm a woman in Engineering.

1. University of Central Florida
2. Since Junior year of high school
3. I am in my last semester of my undergraduate degree, I spend 8-10 hours a day on campus studying or doing other schoolwork
4. Problem-solving and application of science to make the world a better place
5. 1. Commit to your classes, get ahead in the beginning of the semester, do more than the professor asks, if you don't, others will, and you'll be stuck with B's
2. Don't be a closet engineer, the one who never leaves their desk because they are a human calculator. Branch out, enjoy college, meet people outside of your major, just stay focused.
6. I took through Pre-Calculus in HS and conceptual physics. My first year was challenging, but with hard work, you can get through it.
7. I'll get back to you once I find one.
8. I'm male, but I've heard that if you have the same technical skills and know how to command respect, it doesn't really matter. That being said, people are people and engineering is 90% men, so if you're a pretty girl, your chances are good.
