How did you get your start doing clinical pharmacist work, and what career moves did you make to get to your current position? Do you need a particular educational background? |

If you truly want to get into clinical work you start with your pharm D which is important because of the clinical rotations and then either move to hospital staff which sometimes includes aspects of clinical pharmacy but check with the director when you are interviewing becuase i was told my a director in our area that there is no true clinical or staff everyone does everything, now that may only apply to some hospitals not all so keep that in nind. Or you could try to go to home infusion or long term care clinical that might be easier as a new grad. But generally if you have worked in a hospital as a pharmacist most other hospitals will consider you for a clinical position. |

I tell all my students to get their PharmD and consider doing a residency for just one year. If you cannot do a residency then you should consider getting Board Certified (BCPS). This route will keep you on top and provide more opportunities. When I move, I can guarantee a clinical job or be a staff pharmacist until something clinical comes up. It would be hard for a staff pharmacist to get a clinical position without the experience and background. Good luck! |
