Maria, this depends on what your degree is. I am a Doctor of Pharmacy in the United States. If your degree is equal to the American Degree ( you must contact the board of pharmacy in whatever state you want to practice pharmacy in) then all you need to do is take 3 tests. The Foreign graduate competency and equvilency exam for pharmacists, the pharmacy law exam for the state you want to practice in, and the NAPLEX. Once you pass all three of those, you have a valid green card, and they do a background check, you should be able to practice. There are MANY Armenians here in Glendale that have come from Armenia and are pharmacists. Hope this helps. God Bless. |

i'm transitioning from retail to hospital pharmacy and clincal setting. Any words of advice from clinical pharmacists?. Any pointer on how best to utilize micromedix, what kind of questions to expect from Dr.s, where to find the best formulas for converting Iv analgesics to oral tablets. any unofficial /odd drugs used for un-officail use etc. Your insight will be greatly appreciated. This is my dream job and want to nail it. thanks in advance for any tips to help me prepare better. . |

This is my dream job and want to nail it. thanks in advance for any tips to help me prepare better. . Congrats on getting your dream job. Micromedex is useful for interactions and such but I like Lexi better myself. The most important drug clasess for pharmacists to have a solid understanding in my opinion are antibitoics and anti-coagulants. Pharmacists can play a huge role in antibiotic stewardship and cost savings for hospitals. Know your indications, dosing in obese, renal and hepatic patients, and cost of products. Great resources are: 1. prod.hopkins-abxguide.org/r.html?RequestingPage=http%3A%2F%2Fprod.hopkins-abxguide.org%2Fantibiotics%2Fantibacterial%2Famino_pcn%2Famoxicillin.html&contentInstanceId=254706
3. www.idsociety.org/content.aspx?id=9088 These are the bible guidelines for treatment of a ID issues in the hospital or least a starting ground for treatment. You need to know your cystitis, pneuomonia, and sepsis treatment options and go from there and keep learning. Know your anti-coagulants! When to use them, which one to use, when to stop them. read the CHEST guidelines. Also, become proficient in dosing NPH, glargine, levemir, etc. Important to to know this, too often physicians will be too busy and focused on the chief complaints and will forget about glucose management.
