Amar,

There is a thread on this site that discusses CRA training. Most people find that they waste their money and are not placed with a job. Please look in to it.

I took the CRMC course at Michigan State University and it was awesome! Here's the link: nursing.msu.edu/cracrc.aspx The course is completely online - even the exams and they reviewed my resume and gave me a little help with job leads. I found my job myself, but I don't think I would have been hired without the training. I use it every day.

There's always so much debate about "real" schools, etc. You and employers KNOW that MSU is a real accredited college with a great research reputation. A university training certificate looks great on my resume and something I cn be proud of forever.

I learned so much. Let me know if you have any questions.

I am a health care professional looking for a career change. I have been taking an online CRA course that uses an essay format, with no exams(and no feedback). After doing some research over the pass couple of days, I've figured out that it is extremely unlikely that I could obtain an entry-level position in the field without a minimum of 1-2 yrs of experience. I am starting to wonder whether I should invest my time in pursuing either another route(degree) or at least a more "industry recognized" training program. Unfortunately, I can not afford to pursue another degree at the moment, so I am opting for certification. I would appreciate a few more details about the MSU CRMC course. Were you required to complete the course within a certain time frame? When looking at the site, I saw that a textbook is included with cost. What precentage of studying was from textbook vs. online lectures? Do theyallowed to retake a failed exam?

Hi Beanie You could probably pass the exams without listening to the lectures at all. The textbook is very thorough! The lectures do give additional details and some personal experiences of the instructor. I enjoyed them. You are allowed to retake the exams if necessary. I was talking to someone on a different forum and she said that in MI the state will pay for the tuition. She spoke to the course director for the details. She helped me with filing for unemployment reimbursement too. contact Juliet at appliedqualitysolutions@yahoo.com She can help. I'm going on the road and won't be able to check back here until next week. Good Luck!

Hi KC

Thank you very much for the info regarding your experiences with the online course at Michigan State and also for the additional leads regarding tuition. I was not aware at all that the State of MI had a State funded job training/tuition assistance program. I have talked to a few people and I am in the process now of tracking down the appropriate local agency to determine whether I will qualify for the training program. There are a lot of hoops to jump through of course. The program is intended to train or re-train MI residents for higher paying, high demand occupations that have a shortage of skilled workers. The biotechnology field is definitely on that list. I found that there might be a couple of other training options available to choose from also (along with the online MSU CRA cert.) There is a local University that offers a MS in Clinical Research Administration. I would absolutely be more interested in earning a degree vs. a certificate if given the opportunity. The degree would probably give me more options for at least some type of entry-level position into the field, since I don't have the experience. I am currently trying to get more information regarding qualifications for entry into the MS CRA program also, as I am not clear from their description whether I need to be employed in the research field already.

KC,

Thanks for the link. Did you have some kind of clinical experience prior to getting the certificate? I have a BS in Biology and three years of pre-clinical research experience and wondering if this would help me getting a job as a CRA without having clinical research experience or medical background.

I used to live in Michigan and wish I knew about this program before moving to Florida six months ago.

Thanks.

Your pre-clinical experience would be a huge asset! I had nursing experience, but no research experience at all.

Have you checked with Juliet? She was very helpful to me. She may know if FL has any state funding available.

The course from MSU was fabulous! I learned skills that I use everyday. And I learned how to intrepret the Regs, which is invaluable when talking to the Docs on site.

Michelle Santoro eight months ago wrote saying she is attending American Schitech Institute in New Jersey and wrote a whole summary/sales pitch of how great it is. Then six months ago, only two months later, wrote she is the enrollment advisor, not a student. I knew a student hadn't written so much about that school. That was like a sales pitch. I believe Helen when she says that school is a fraud.

I visited American Schitech Institute, and from the discussion I had with student advisor I do not pray for any one to waste such amount of money, he told me that you have to score above 85% in your course work and exams for you to be entitled for paid intership, which of course only one or two percent score 85% and above, when I asked if it is because of lack of place for thier placement, he just smiled? then he kept quiet. Pls think twice before paying such amount of money.

I am one of the former student of American Scitech. They told our batch if we score 75% or above, then you will be entitled for a paid internship. But none of us get it at the end. You can tell how TRUSTWORTHY of their words are. Be very careful of the words came out from the student advisor. He can promise alot of things, but at the end none of them would come true. I wouldn't suggest you to think twice for the program. I would suggest you NOT to waste your money at this place.

I took the online course at Michigan State U and it was great! You can be anywhere and it is a real university you get on your resume not some fly-by-night. Here's the link: nursing.msu.edu/cracrc.aspx. The staff are really helpful, too. I had some financial aid questions and they set me in the right direction. Good Luck.

Jackie in New Brunswick, New Jersey said: eCRO stands for electronic data capture Clinical Research Organization. In an eCRO alot of the essential documents, for example the Case Report Form (CRF) can be filled out directly on the computer rather than in the paper form, therefore, allowing monitors to be able to view the information from a secure computer systerm. In addition, labs will be set up directly to the computer system so that you can view the source documents from the computer system. It allows for quicker data analysis, less paper work (just think a Phase 3 trial could have 8000 patients= alot of paper work), it also allows for additonal monitoring because CRAs can view the information when they choose. I am an intern at American Scitech which is an eCRO.

Yes, that is correct. But as cool as it may seem to a CRA, PIs actually don't like it. RDC takes a lot of time (much more then paperwork they're used to) and CRA's often end up typing the data in for them. I went through that a lot of times unfortunately.

Yes, this is the only institute which trains and hires. The financial compensation is only $27,000 or $30,000 but as an intern you are still learning and you do not add any financial value to the company. They pay $27,000 for not doing anything. It is up to you how much you grasp and learn in the real world. They let you work independently and give you opportunity to fine tune yourself; infact your input does not help them any way but they still pay you for it.
Great company; not doubt very strict!! But you discipline yourself, which helps.
I would recommend to my friends and family.
Thanks, I can not disclose my entity because currently I am working with them

Are you speaking about clinicaltrainingonline or AmericanScitech? I looked at clinical training online. I did not see anything at all
about an internship. The only link even close to that was a link for resume writing in which clinicalresearchonline clearly does not guarntee any placement. Now with people writing in and claiming
that AmericanScitech does not always give people an internship it seems the only real solution is to get a lower level position first. Training is great but it only helps if you already are working in the field.

I work for AMERICAN SCITECH in capacity of senior position
I know some students have problem with applying their bookish knowledge in the practicals. Therefore, some students take longer time to finish practical because the practicals are simulation of real CRA work and it is difficult for some students to even understand the question. Anyway, it all comes by practice.
In fact, I know the person who has written this comment:
My answer for that person is; you need to submit your corrected version of your assignment so they you qualify for the certification for CRA training. How can Institute give internship to unsuccessful candidate? I am sure you can still get the internship, provided you complete you assignment which is not a test “JUST REWRITING THE WHOLE ASSIGNMENT CORRECTLY" The direction for rewriting has already been discussed with you.
Please do not blame American Scitech for your shortcomings.
AMERICN SCITECH is not benefitted by the interns but they still pay $27000 to $30,000 to their interns. They expect that after you finish your internship you may be a better CRA. They train interns according to their needs and requirements. It is full service CRO and they procure the entire project which requires protocol writing, SOPs, designing and reviewing informed consents, and managing the essential documents, IRB process for submission, and many more things.
If you are a good learner you will enjoy and appreciate the opportunity, but if you are not up to the mark then you will hate and feel frustated.
It all depends upon the students not on instructors and Institute.
I recommend the course.

Sure, America Scitech keep postponing student's precious time. This place is extremely disorganized from the course curriculum to student assignments. It's a totally messed up place. Please make your decision wisely. I would suggest people should go for junior position at a well reputated organization. This institute wasn't even registered as a real institute when I was a student there.

All this stuff about American Scitech shows that there are legitimate questions to be answered from there. Since I have never been a student there I can ask without anyone saying I failed a course or have a situation from being a previous student. So I am asking whom ever speaks for American Scitech do you guarantee internship placement in writing before beginning the CRA program?

What options are there for students who don't score an 85% average? Everyone here knows that you could get a Masters degree from a very reputable university, such as George Washington, and if you don't have experience with it the degree is truly worthless. That is a fact. Everyone looking for an entry level CRA position realizes this. So the question is will American Scitech put its talk in a written contract form? If not, why not? Now maybe American Scitech can prove it's reputation for the better or for the worst.

Proemed,

See the thing is, when it comes to module 4 (which is about writing a protocol), there is no right or wrong answer. It really depends on whether they like your protocol or if they need interns to run the places. So no matter how well you did your past modules, if they already have enough interns to run the place (ie. Interns teaching the program), they will have alot of excuses not to give you the internship. For instance, they would say you did not pass their module or you did not complete you assignment. Their words change from time to time no matter they put it on paper or not.

Also, would you like to waste your money for a program which is taught by ZERO CRA field experience interns? When I took this program, nobody told me it would be taught by zero CRA field experience intern. You attend a reputable university and you'll at least get a recognizable degree. But what can you get from American Scitech? Their certificate is not even being recognized?

I am not trying to stop anybody. It is still your own decision to make. I am just sharing my own experience and tell the truth when people are curious.

Hello BRAD, I am a student advisor for American Scitech Research Institute. 1st of all there was never a student by the name of BRAD that enrolled for the program.
And as far as the instructors are concerned most of our instructors are M.D's with feild experience as CRA's e.g. Dr. Tej, Dr. Grewal, Dr. Saha, Dr. Thakre, Dr. Boldbatter, Dr. Rausch. 3 of the 6 instructors mentioned above have been certified by SOCRA as well.
Now coming to the recognition;
American Scitech Research Institute is approved by the N.J. Depratment of Education ,Labor and Workforce Development.
I'm not blaming "BRAD" but if his/her company is not doing well they tend to resort to negative advertisement.
I ask that if any one is interested in the CRA training at American Scitech Research Institue,
