Switching from CRA to SAS Programming

I am planning to switch my career from Clinical Research to SAS programmer. Can some one guide me how difficult it could be to get entry in to SAS programming field? I am preparing for SAS base programming certification and attending online training course. Would it be enough to become a SAS programmer? Do I really need background as IT Professional or as a statistician? Please advise.

I have already started taking training online. Are you currently working as a SAS programmer in chicago area? just trying to expand network. Thanks again for your input.

Hi Patson,

I am taking training from Knowledge system institute, it is private institute in chicago area. There are many other private tutors available for this training as well, especially in NJ/NY area.

I already got Base SAS9 certificate, completed Philadelphia University SAS certificate 3 month course and was promised to get an internship but did not get no job no internship. The field is very very competitive. Two years past but I am still looking for a job. Hope this will help.
