What is the best training for becoming a collections specialist? What types of ongoing training or certifications are necessary to be an effective collections specialist?

Know your business. Have a 360 degree picture of what brought a debtor to collections. I personally had the opportunity to work for a large bank in the home equity department. That gave me a look at how to underwrite, what guidelines the banks look at.

Know your programs! Excel, Access, Word. Along with Dos and Window based products. That experience is a must.
