Are jobs in this industry on the rise? Are there any sub-sectors that are growing?

Where are the jobs? Which places have the most collections specialist opportunities?

D Lynch in Rochester, New York

In my area there are no more first party collections. At one point my area of Rochester NY was booming. Now we have just third party, high stress, low self esteem, high risk of law suit jobs that don’t pay enough to pay the bills. If your supervisory likes you, you will make your bonus if not, you’re out of luck. The market here is the name game now. Not many professionals. There is a good demand for Para Legal Collectors. But again the volume is high and the pay is fair but as it is all over the country a tough job market.

I worked from home for three years as a collections supervisor. I was paid a fair salary for the amount of work I did and the results I brought. Of course that portfolio was sold.

I would love to be able to support my family but even though I love my boss and where I work, it just is not enough incentive. The only way to get a good collections job in Rochester NY right now if you are lucky is at one of the not for profit Credit Unions. This was a hard transition for me seeing my past three positions were with fortune 500 companies.

So if you are looking for a job in Rochester NY, Conserve is a third party, Axiant, Pioneer all deal with the Department of Education. They also have a great deal of turn around. It is not for everyone.

Second is to try the Credit Unions. Third watch every day I did. It took me 7 months to find a job that fit and offered me more than $12.00 an hour because that is the "going" rate in this area. But I stood my ground and finally found a job that fit my skills.

Good Luck to you in your search. Never give up you never know when the phone will be ringing.
