How did you get your start doing commercial property manager work, and what career moves did you make to get to your current position?

It is very difficult to get your foot in the door. I have several years of real estate, and lending experience as well as teaching computer applications. I hold a BA Degree, and I am a licensed Realtor in my state. I have been on several interviews, and I am getting I can't get a call back even though all I'm asking for is an assistant position starting at 45K a year. It seems it's the catch 22, They won't give you the job without the experience, and you can't get the experience without the job.

I am a licensed REALTOR as well. In Georgia by law one has to be licensed to handle properties for more than one owner. I actually stumbled into the position. I began as an office manager and was offered the opportunity to become licensed and focus on property management and leasing. This area is our bread and butter when sales are slow. For those looking for a position, I suggest contacting independent companies whose sign you see around town leasing vacant space. There are designations one can acquire but most fall into the catch 22 category.
