What do you enjoy most about concierge work? What do you dislike the most? Is it challenging? Are there many opportunities to learn and advance? What keeps you at your job? |

I like the possibility to helpful to people who are guest not only of the hotel but also of the city where I live. It's like showing your world to a friend who comes from abroad...
I simply love it and tips double my monthly income. |

I have been a professional Concierge for 17 years. I enjoy everything about the job. The guest, making things happen for the guest, surprising management when there is a guest with problems and myself or one of my staff members already know the guest and know exactly what to do to keep the person a guest. I also love teaching my team how to be the best they can be. The draw back is when I go into a new hotel and management thinks they know everything there is to know about the Concierge and they really don't. The challenge comes in re-educating, resetting up the desk and changing the mind set. Which in my mind should not be as difficult as it can be. IT IS NOT LIKE OUR OCCUPATION IS NEW! The other draw back is when I really want to go home for the day and enjoy my life (especially after working 12-15 hours at a busy desk) and I have to go to an event or try a restaurant. This can be very irritating at times. Never forget the freebies are work.
