If you work for a GC familiarize yourself with the Specifications on the project which are listed as divisions of the project for i.e. division 3 Concrete, 14 Elevators. Not all Spec books are the same but it will help you once you get to met the subs for each project; read one of the contracts you may not be the one to draw it but giving yourself the idea on the general condition between GC and Sub or GC and Owner will help. If you work for the Owner get to know the subcontractors and vendors, you will be the filter for everything all things that the GC sent to the Owner. Sit in on a meeting read up on the contract between GC and Owner and Owner and Architects…Set up your filing by Owners, Architects, GC and GC subs via division… this is just a few ideas I’m sure you will find your own way around
