If you want a really easy and fast way to find a job i recommend using Hound. All you do is go on the site and start looking and you will find something that fits your needs right away.
I enjoyed using the site because it shows you unadvertised jobs from employer websites. If you have some extra time and want a job, check into this site.

I've been in construction for over 20 years, I have not found a job in over one year. I got laid off because the company went under. I do not understand why companies in recent years keep hiring the lowest bidder. They always forget something which results in under staffing or trying to cut corners, which puts you at odds with the home office for being behind in schedule. Well excuse me! Stop rehiring the lowest bidder and expecting top results! You can only push a sub so far. But lately I seam to be the only one from old school who knows this does not work for vary long. Which is probably why I don't have a job.

thank you docc300 that statement you made is absolutely correct, that and the mexicans have us so beat down we can't work for 2.00 a foot!! somehow they can. If you ride around savannah and surrounding counties white men are hiring crews of mexicans and that is how they are beating the prices down!! its not right! and if I were home purchasers I would not buy from home builders like that either!

This has happened to myself on numerous occassions, non perforfing subs seldom move to the next level. I have spent an innordinate amount of time planning, showing them ways of speeding up production. It doesn't work.
As a superintendent, we are supposed to make lemonade out of a project that has the bottom of the barrel subs, who know not how to coodinate thie work or have any idea what the plans and specifications read, even with weekly and bi-weekly schedules.Foreman and /or a supt for the subs that you only see once at a precon, then seem to dissapear for thr remainder of project.
It always falls back on us to take subs who usually havent attempted this kind of construction before,as their people were geared for residential. These are just a few of the issues that a supt. these days are confronted with.
We are always the first to have fingers pointed at us for our inability to make a "team" out of substandard help.

I was "under-cut" after my interview. I left one interview, the president of the company told his Administrative Assistant to type up my formal offer letter, I was happy I had the job! Then 2, 3 days go by nothing. I call and find out that the person interviewed after me asked what I was offered and dropped his price and he got the position. I asked why didn't you call me to at least agree to less money? He replied, I don't know. On 2 other occassions I went to the Interview always 30 minutes early. I introduce myself and I was told they called me and cancelled, not true. My phone runs through my P.C. so I can print out all calls, they never called. So at one place in Downtown Miami, I had to pay $10 for parking the other was $20 for parking, no interview, plus fuel for my explorer, this has become insane!!!!!!!!!

I guess that I am in the same boat that all of us are in.I have gone out to three interviews in the last three months for jobs that where not even there. The companies thought that they where going to get the bid so they where interveiwing. Go through the interveiw and they tell me that I would be prefect for there company and then I leave feeling good in that I may have a job,I even do the follow up interview Thank You E-Mail then nothing for days.I do follow up calls and they never return the calls and when i do get someone in person then they tell me that the position just never developed. One of the interviews was 4hrs from the house, for a 30min interview, then they didn't get the bid.
Just wish that companies would treat of as professionals that we are. We go out in to the world and make them money and most of the time we are the over looked ones. Subs get theres, Compines get there's and we get laid off until more contracts come in. Hope that the up swing will start after the first of the years. Luck to all out there.

Now is the time to continue updating your credentials, your 10 hr card , or 30 hr card ect. How handy are you? Put ads out of what you know how to do, put it on Craiglist it's free!!!! Or on Facebook, speak with everyone you know!!!! Get some biz cards done, they are really cheap from Vista print!!!! Learn a new trade!!! Yes it may be for less pay, but you never know what it might bring or you might catch the eye of a potential client. Join the Green movement there is a chapter in Miami, where there are all the Architecs, General Contractors, and Subcontractors!!!! Join social networking meet ups and give your card to eveyone off 2 ft of you!!! You see there are a lot of things you can do, just picture it in your mind and you can accomplish it!!! Good luck form Gonzo.

Yes its really hard been laid off for 9 months!!! I have sent out my resume about 100 times, got 2 interviews but no luck!! So I started putting Handyman Services on Craiglist and I have excellent results!!!! I have also learned a new trade installing windows and doors, believe me its not what I want to be doing but due to the circumstances it's what I have to do!!! Got to feed my family!! This whole experience has humbled me in an a profound way, so I feel that the people I have met feel compasion towards me, so they speak with everyone they know, and before you know it my cell phone is ringing off the hook for Handyman Services!!! Good luck my friend I will send some positive waves to you!!!!

I am very happy for you! Let me ask you a question? I am originally from Connecticut only been here for about 6 years. In CT. It costs about $1,200 dollars for a Home Improvement License. I was thinking about doing exactly what you are having success with, the small amount from unemployment was supplmenting what we had in savings. With a medical emergency in the family and the savings went!

Do you have to get some sort of license for Handy Man work? Personally in Connecticut they could care less, but Florida wants $$$$ for everything. Thank-you for your help. I did mention to a lot of people that sometimes to be humbled does us some good. However, I feel that at 57 years of age I have been humbled enough. I went through the same situation right after 911 when the towers went down. Companies in CT. NY. NJ, several New England states moved out in fear that we were going to be attacked again. I was fortunate enough to pick some small jobs but it was a HARD 2 YEARS of work and no work! Again, Thank-you for the info & God Bless!

To Jay Glass,

You are 110% correct we in the construction trades RUNNING the jobs do get overlooked and basically USED! I am in South Florida and it is a different world from working in CT. NY. NJ. MA., etc. In the North you are respected for what you do, not here there is someone let's just say that isn't supposed to be working in the USA and they get my job because they will work for almost free. Well, why not at least give an American the chance to work for a few less bucks, but at least be working! I have worked for over 3 decades in construction. I possess 3 degrees, A. D. Mechanical engineering, B. S. Business Administration & Masters in Construction Management. I have worked as a Superintendent, General Superintendent, Operation Manager, Project Manager, Senior Project Manager & Project Coordinator. When I do get the chance to get a rare interview, I have been told I am OVER QUALIFIED or you qualifications are more than we need???? You have to be
kidding! What about if and when the market comes back? Thee are a lot of Companies that are going to be hurt for taking advantage of people. I personally know Supers that had to take 40% cut in pay to stay working, but they still have money coming in to pay bills. However, when and if things get better do you think these Companies are going to give back the 40%, no. This is when people will quit without notice and go to work for someone who is paying. The Companies are the ones going to suffer for what they have done!

Hey my friend, no you dont need a license, if your doing small things no, but if you are doing large remodels or something of that nature I suggest you get a Corp, and do it all the way. Remember you are in people's homes so they're is always the risk of you breaking things or something could really go wrong. Use your judgement!!!!!Good luck my friend keep your head up!!!!!!

I fit the same as you guys, I've been laids off for almost a year. I have had several interviews and the jobs just vanishes. I've hit every market, commercial and industrial and nothing. I also noticed everyone is demanding a BS, MBS or an associates for a paynothing job! well i have the degree and still can't land a job inland or overseas. I simply refuse to pay a consultant to allow me to view ALL THE JOB'S THEY HAVE LOGGED BANKED! I didn't say jobs I could get just view them! I've been in the business for 42 years, I'm 59 years old and thinking of just retiring and see if I can draw Social security till the economy comes back. This appears to be the only resoluation.

I agree with the comments of Albert. The economy falling was no the fault of the craftsman, and lower case managers however, we are expected to take work assignments away from home and take less wages than were paid in the 70 and 80's. I refuse to pay to view site for a job as well. They can't guarantee work, just review work proposals. I don't know if the job's are real or just some ones ego to pad their checking account. I feel like this, the companiy I work for get's paid by the hour for every hour I work, why should I pay additional money that I don't have to view their NUMEROUS 100,000 dollar a year job. My God! I was making 165,000 a year in 2008. The economy will come back, I only hope everone remembers the companies which attempted to get wealthy off hard working blue collar people like us down on their luck.

I lost a lot of money with other spell casters. I was under the impression to buy spells and spell-casting sessions just to find out that all I got was a bunch of useless products. (spell kits and similar items but when I found Thelordofspell, he was wonderfully kind person- I visited many so called psychics, witches, spell casters and when I ask them a question about a spell, they tell me “its not but thelordfofspell@live.com did every thing he could to make me happy again
