I got to oper. the crane on the ship a few days ago about 80 ft. up was very uncomfortable but managed to hang in there untill I was called down to run the shore crane which I enjoy very much. My question is how safe are the ships cranes? I know they are built tough to endure rough weather, still a few words might be encouragingly. Thanks Folks Stay Safe

Hi there, I am a crane operator on an offshore support vessel (d.s.v) and I can tell you the next thing.
Ship cranes are built to last and are built mutch stronger than shore crane's because like you said yourself, to endure rough weather, well thats what they are built for! Don't be afraid, get up there and do your job! thats what you are there for!
At sea it is a lot more difficult to use the crane because you have to compensate the movement of the vessel, but hey! you are in charge and if you think it's not doable then just say NO! The crane operator is like the boss himself so do not be afraid an dgo for it, its the best job in the world and I am good at it! take care !!!!!
