I am interested in entry-level Data Analyst jobs.

My skills are:

A)SQL (with MySQL)- I know how to create a table, update a table, join tables, use aggregate functions(Max, Min, Avg, Sum, Count). Plus I know conditional logic.

B)Excel - I know how to use pivot table, vlookup, and some other functions.

C) I know the basic stuff in open source statistical software R.

My question is : What are the every-day Excel and SQL skills that I should know before I apply for a job.

Please let me know. Thank you!

I am a data analyst... I use tons of sql. Complicated joins, sub queries, aggregate functions.

For excel... I know pretty much every built in function, plus you should be familiar with the data mining tools, Data Analysis methods, reporting...

Be familiar with access anbd querying.

Crystal Reports, Mathematica...

I was a math major, and I graduated and got a job right away. What are you studying, If have anymore questions your welcome to email me.

I've been doing data analysis for years, and I have very little experience with Excel. I do almost everything in SQL, Python, and STATA (R is great too). I only use Excel to make really basic graphs with finished data.

More importantly, if you can do the other things you need to be able to do to be a data analyst, Excel should be pretty trivial. Just look up what you need when you don't know how to do something.

I'd focus more on learning some Python rather than more silly excel functions if you really want to stand out.
