The sky seems to be the limit for this position. I've recently seen a position with a $155,000 limit! A normal salary for a good data architect, however, is around $100,000 to $120,000.
As to what skills you need to learn to increase your salary, it would obviously depend on what you already know. There are many requirements for a data architect and the more areas you are expert in, the better. If you can tell me what you already have under your belt, I can tell you what you need to learn. The areas include a background as a DBA, dimensional modeling, ETL tools, server admin knowledge, scripting languages, database Servers, metadata management, business intelligence and OLAP tools, and in depth knowledge of at least one vertical market.
