Dental Assistant wanting to open my own dental office

I have been a dental assistant for 10 years. I am thinking about opening my own practice. I sit at work and constantly think of how I would run things if I had a say in it. So I would like to have my say and am just wondering if this could or should be a reality or just a dream. Any advise would help.

Riot because my other dental friends and I always talk about the same exact thing. I know the best staff and highly skilled individuals who we would hand -pick for our "perfect team" and we would go out and find the perfect dentist to work with us. Why should it be the other way around!??? Hey, if u have the capital - why not?

Before you do anything you need to find out the state requirements about who can own a dental practice, from the state dental board. In some states only a dentist can own a dental practice.

I ve so wanted to the samething for years.Hire the dentist.But I don't believe the state allows any all the above.

I think, anyone can buy dental practice,like any other business. Any medicine here is business too. That is how Companies like Coast Dental, Aspen Dental, Advances Dental Care and others were created. Since you become an Owner you can hire dentists, assistants, hygienists, front office and so on. If you have enough money for that, go ahead! Or you can take loan for opening your business. I heard that there is some help now for people, who want to open their businesses that to help economy to grow up. So, it's a good idea too. You risk , of cause. So, make sure, that you hire very good dentists than...Good luck.

I like the spirit of creativity. To answer everyone's questions of: Whether a lay person can own a clinical practice?

In short the answer is yes and no.

No because lay persons are not medical providers.

Yes, via a business module called Management Company.

Under this structure, one can handle all of the administration affairs of the practice, and the Provider contracts his fees to you as a 1099 clinical management.

The management company performs: Marketing, Office mamagement, HR duties for all staff less MD, DDS, or DC, billing and collection.

In most cases Doctors detest the functions of admin duties and in most cases love to leave such duties to the admin staff. Trouble, is Providers are hard to be advised that they are not moving fast enough. We are not authorized to dictate medical protocols.

Again: the relationship pertains to a relationship with the Provider from the outset.

Can a management company can manage a dental office?

A management company's role is to manage the administrative component of the practice. Fo this service, the management company presents a contracted fee to the professional corporation or ( PA).

Yes, is the short answer.

I did the same with a Family medical clinic, to be honest it's better to engage in medical verses dental. There are a lot more reimbursement opportunities.

We opened a medical facilty. No family doctor avaible and hard to find doctors. The dentisits are on their own and doing good business in brampton. I have resources to make a dental facilty if any new doctor want to make a committment.

Presently, our client is: Endo - Perio - TMJ clinic. We took over the complete operations of the ailing clinic.

Today, we are break even. And are now looking at solid profits in the late second quarter.
