How did you get your start doing director of development work, and what career moves did you make to get to your current position? Do you need a particular educational background? |

the development profession is one requiring some level of skills in marketing and sales. Entry level position commonly are in the annual giving and more experienced professionals move into major and or planned giving. |

My own path was a BA in Journalism/Public Relations and a MPA with a graduate certificate in Nonprofit Management. I also have a few certificates from the Fund Raising School in Indianapolis - which I highly recommend. I would also check into your local Associate of Fundraising Professionals and explore the CFRE process. |
