Do some companies pay a lot more for this position than others? What does a top earner make in this field?

What skills should you learn to increase your salary?

The answer this depends upon which industry we are talking about. Hotels and Resorts usually pay less than healthcare facilities for this position due to the difference in regulations and responsibilities.

hotels and resorts - the range could be anywhere from $30K - $70K dependent upon size.

hospitals - the lower range is still in effect, but the topping out point would be around $100K

I have worked in both the Medical and Hospitality fields. I have done this from a 173 bed critical care facility to a 12 story 250 room hotel with full F&B and have found that your skills dictate what you will be compensated. You must have the skills to relate to Executives and be versatile enough to relate to the hourly employees. It takes alot more than merely the janitorial experience, that is the lower level of this position.
