How did you get your start doing director of product management work, and what career moves did you make to get to your current position? Do you need a particular educational background? |

Title does not mean anything. In startups, you can easily get a director or a VP title if you are one of the early people to join. I know of people who just graduated from school having such titles. In an established company, I would say that you will need at least 10 years of product management experience, should have managed a team of customer facing reports. You should have shown past successes as you have progressed in either in product management, sales, tech support, professional services etc. where you were well tuned to the customer needs, knew how to deal with a wide cross section of customers. |
