CDL permit

I just got my cdl permit. will any place take me with that or what should i do get started. i whould really like to drive i live in south east wisconsin. i whould like to get my license but dont have a truck for a class b. thanks for your help.

I was a CDL driver for 10 years, find a local truck stop, and pick
up some of those magazines on truck driver employeers, if you are new, and you have a perfect driving record and background, it would be fair easy to contact a driving company and ask for their training, you normally have to sign some type of contract, but do not think this is easy work, being new, you will be away from home for very long periods, you will be isolated, and alone, and driving countless hours, if you got your truck loaded at 6PM, do you think you could drive all night for a rush delivery, you will hear a lot of it, this is a HOT LOAD, you have to be there... and one wrech can end your career, if you kill someone and its your fault, prepare for jail, and DUI now or later, your career is instantly dead.

if you are new, even running a red light could hinder you. to get into a training program, you have to have a PERFECT DRIVING RECORD, AND BACKGROUND CHECK, and if you lie about it and think you got away from it, and you end up in training, they will find it in all the checks they do, they will fire you on the spot, and your paying for bus or airfaire back home.

Hey everyone i am trying to start driving as well, and a friend offered me an excellent suggestion. Get certified with the help of an experienced driver. Give money if necessary, then rent a day truck from Ryder or Penske for your exam. I am working on that now because i didnt want to pay thousands for the school. Hope thise helps

If you have a cdl permit, I know in the chi you may apply to work for the city driving the bus. They are offering 17.46 per hour plus benefits, I am planning to take the test for my cdl permit tomorrow and wish me luck. So if you are looking for work in your area and you live in the city, check out the transportation system such as for a well populated cities. The catch is you have to pass a drug test, background check, and a pretty clean driving record.

I want to go with a o/o to finish my cdl driving test... I dont want to sign a contract... can someone please help me?

You can also check out Michael Berry, you can get lessons by the hour, day or week. Some people need more training and some need less. You only take the lesson you need to get your CDL license.

yes im on my way to getting my cdl permit,and i was wondering do most companies hire with just having your cdl permit.is there such a thing where companies hire u and place u with a cdl driver so you can work make some money and train at the same time,or would it be best to just go to a driving school,any answers will be apprieciated.

There are plenty of trucking jobs. The problem is your in the wrong state. Dallas, texas has more trucking jobs then you can shake a stick at. Go to the want ads and you will see what I'am talking about. We also have Pam transportation that are begging people to work. Or just go to Craigs list under transport and there are a whole lot of jobs on that list, but that is not even 1/4 of the listings in the paper. Get to Texas!!!

So I am looking to maybe rent a truck or borrow with money from a person. Time is ticking away and the longer I wait the more money I spend, and trust me I dont have alot. So I guess the question I have is, does anyone know where I can get my hands on a truck to take the test? Any help would be appreciated. I live in Texas about 50 miles North of San Antonio.

thats how i started. you have to have a spotless record, not even a glitch can show on your DMV,MVR or you could be considered a risk...and it does not take much...I never made a lot of money driving, and you spend a lot out on high food places...you spend all your time driving,waiting, or sleeping, and if that is the kind of life you want, then go for it. I make just as much now at some dead end job I have now, then I did with truck driving, and at least I am home every night, but the more desire you have at driving, I guess the more you could make. You think your having a good pay week, then your truck brakes down, and your screwed, as repairs are not 5 min jobs in the trucking industry, and some times your screwed out of loads and your forced to lay over with little or no pay, and your stuck at some hore truck stop 1500 miles from your women...trucking has its ups and downs, mostly downs...:)

Hi Shawn try callin Willis Shaw Express they have a Driving school in Boise, Idahoe. just have to complete a years contract with them and will cost you nothing. they also have a NW regional that'll keep ya on the west coast.

Hey Dusty thanks for the advice I'll try them tomorrow. Hope they take me. I kinda have a bad background as far as criminal goes. I do have 7 yrs. of clean though alot of companies said they cant do anything for me cause of that but maybe all goes well. Thank you.

Do they know you have a criminal background. if you have lied, they will not hesitate to send you packing during your training process.

VRose is correct if you did not disclose to them that you have a crim. background they will not train you and you will be paying to go back home.in fact alot of companies want ten years of clean records to pre hire you for training. I do know one way to go is thru Road Master but they r expensive as hell. Good luck with that but I intend to do the whole deal by myself. hopefully I can find a truck I just need to keep looking.

your best bet is to go to a school, go through their driving
program, and you get your lic through them as they will let
you drive for the test, then put you to work...

And another thing is I don't know your situation but (incase you just go throough these forums to find someone to let out aggression on without reading all thier posts) mine is this I have a crim. background so a school won't accept me due to the pre employment requirement. Also I am aware that there are other "pay yourself schools" out there but I dont have the funds for that stuff. So my only choice is to do it myself and by posting in this forum I was only hoping to get a hold a nicer person than you to only help not hold my hand and do it for me. So in the future you may want to be nicer to people it always comes back to you what you do or say. And I'm not trying to be a moderator or anything but come on man grow up a little. Oh yeah and piss off.

I was curious about comments in this Forum so I started reading and then came across your comment...you know, I can understand that the guy may be a bit naive or maybe just being hopeful that someone would lend him their tractor/trailor. But your comment about his crimanal background was just ignorant on your part. How do you judge a person w/out knowing him or the circumstance of his history??? Ok yes, I will say 90-95% of ex-cons do repeat their criminal ways by choice. But what about the very few that don't? Did you ever stop & think that maybe he knows he made a mistake? Being at the wrong place at the wrong time? Willingly or not. Don't you think that being convicted was what came around & bit him in the ass?! What do you think will come around and bite you because of your ignorance? There are those few that aren't career criminals and do need that chance in life that no one seems to give because people like you are so quick to judge w/ignorant assumptions. And I suppose you are so perfect that you have never made a mistake or done anything illegal in the 'Laws' eyes? Or is it that you are just so smart that you have never been caught?!

Well, this forum has certainly taken a turn in the past few days but Diana you are 100% correct, in fact I was going through hard times when I got most of my charges and did my time and did learn from my mistakes. My stepfather had died in a horrible accident and I didn't take it very well and turned to drugs. The way this guys has handled himself is just wrong, it's not like my charges are violent and I dodn't have felonies. And my history is coming back to bite me in my butt. So I have learned even more about the things I did and make every effort to avoid those situations again. I have recently recieved my CDL permit and looking for work in that field. The jobs I have held since the things I did in my past were going nowhere and I decided it was time to do something to better myself further and the path I choose was in the trucking field. The fact that you see things in a positive way gives me hope that others will do the same. Thank you for understanding and and taking a stand against people like Vrose. He is probably just mad cause he had to pay for school and now works for a company like JB Hunt or Swift and doesn't get paid very much so he gets on places like this and gives problems to people that want to do thing for themselves.

Look man, I did disclose my background and they are helping me. I have had my CDL Permit for 7 months now. I was web searching and found this site. They called me and I told them everything about me because I want to be in this field of work myself. Sorry I didn't mention that I told them. The recruiter helped me out alot. She went the extra mile. I leave in a week or so for training. My criminal history is ten yrs. old and I haven't had any trouble with the law since 1998. Try it out man, it's worth that much. The worst they could say is NO.

If your history is ten years old then you should be fine. The federal law says that it has to be at least 10 years for liability reasons and for the insurance companies to corver you. Good Luck.
