I'm purchasing a dump truck and wanted to see if I could get some information. I'm buying an older 1985 tri axle with a 15 yard legal carrying capacity.

Let me start off my saying I'm not looking for advice about whether or not to get into the trucking business. So please do not post to take the conversation off topic.

I would like to know where the best place to check insurance rates?
What do most jobs require in so far as insurance types and limits?
What is the going rate if I'm going to pay someome else to drive the truck for now?
What is the license requirements for the state and most jobs?

I need enough dirt on my own hauled to make it worth buying a truck. In the meantime I would like to see what work is avialable.

I have the ability to register the truck in Deleware or Louisiana. Which would be best for insurance rates and what would I need if I register in Deleware but work the truck in Louisiana?

You most likely need 1 mil on the insuance , your better to get insurance in the most northern place , and you will need a class b with air brakes , and you pay a driver 26% of gross or about $15.00 a hour ,

Thanks for the reply. I have read other places that some may require workman's comp. Is this the case?

26% of gross, Does the owner of the truck pay employee taxes where you give them a W-2 form at the end of the year or do most of you sign them on as an independent contractor and 1099 at the end of th3 year?

If the driver just comes in and drives then leaves when you tell him. He has no say over anything. Then he's a company employee. Don't be a lazy manager, this is why you get the bulk of his effort; so you follow the law and do as required.
We have enough half-assed business owners in construction as it stands. We don't need anymore!
