Todd Rogers in Des Moines, Washington said: Are there any companies that are willing to hire a recent trucking school grad. w/o experience for local routes? I've been having a hard time with my job search since most places want at least 1 yr of experience. yes all the major long haul companies are looking for inexperienced drivers. Fresh out of school you will most likely have to work for a local milk run outfit - meaning doing a pile of drops everyday that will most likely include a large amount of off loading by hand. Or going over the road weeks at a time with only a few days off at home. There are just too many companies that want loyalty and experience but are not willing to PAY to attract that kind of experience yet they also won't take a chance on new drivers to earn their loyalty. If you are seeking work in the construction industry - you might consider applying to them as a general helper or flagman and let them know you are licenced to drive a truck. As a helper or guide you will learn what is expected of you at a construction site and that kknowledge goes far. Construction sites, just for safety reasons, is NOT a place to be learning. You'll end up learning things the hard way... and possibly someone could get hurt or worse. |

Try KLB Construction..They are restructuring by laying off and re hiring new at cheaper rates...Also Silver Streak Trucking, T-Max Trucking and Gary McCann Trucking are companies you can learn at...I am Female Dump and Pup Driver from that area in Heavy Haul High profile road construction. It's tough out there but hang in there...Bid for the Viaduct comes into play in Jan 2011 and work will pick up. Also..your local union has a training program, or use to, for the heavy construction industry. It's a tough business for a brand new driver as most trucking is done off road and easy to break things, RE: drivelines, rearends or axles. If you find a good driver make him your mentor and pay close attention and ask lots of questions. Driving in construction is no where near any other driving job in the trucking industry. Good Luck!! |
