It all depends on what you want to work on. Do you want to be in the elements? Are you afraid of heights? How much formal training do you have? Do you have base salary needs (a family etc.). How much stability are you looking for? How is your memory? Do you test well and know how to look up information? Do you have experience with the NEC? |

Well, I do have experience in both fields, I prefer a lineman career, but my greatest worry is the job security part. |

There will always be a need for electricity, with that in mind you are choosing a solid career field either way. The main thing is to work hard and study. There are a lot of guys out there that just slide by on the testing, you don't want to be that guy. Make sure that you are the one that people come to when they have an issue, even if your still an apprentice! By making yourself needed you can guarantee that you will stay employed. Don't be afraid of traveling either, especially when you are young, get all the experience you can in as many areas as you can. Keep in touch with everyone that you meet. Keep a section in your phone just for business contacts, it's good to know people! |
