What is the best training for becoming an elementary teacher? What types of ongoing training or certifications are necessary to be an effective elementary teacher?

What do non-traditional career paths look like?

The best training to become an elementary teacher is through direct exposures with the elementary students. Give them a hands- on training. Give them a regular follow- up so that they will be guided correctly on how handle and teach the elementary students.Through these the teacher will become familiar in dealing with these kids.If the teacher knows on how to deal with these kids his teaching the lessons will become effective because he knows the strategies and techniques for every kids that he will handle.

My Daughter is majoring in early childhood elementary education. This is her first semester and she is concerned that in 3 1/2 years (or maybe longer if she gets her masters degree)there will be no teaching jobs here in S.C. She was in Teacher Cadet in her senior yr. in high school and took part in classroom participation as a teacher and loved it! Now she is wondering if she should change her major.

Why does your daughter think there will be no teaching jobs in S.C?? Not to be rude, but their are kids there right?

I think all teachers should work in a daycare before teaching. Daycares give pretty good experience of what people will be dealing with in the class room.

How is a daycare similar to a 5th gr classroom? The kids are at different psychosocial and cognitive stages. Furthermore, parents more likely to be calmer by then. Additionally, children that may need medication are more likely to be on something by 5th gr than in a daycare.
