How did you get your start doing environmental field technician work, and what career moves did you make to get to your current position?

Do you need a particular educational background?

It is unregulated license industry for Technician or Technologist in Environmental business. Any company can hire off the stree a person with no experience and with no background education in Environmental and that person does the same job as tech. He/she get paid very poorly. So, same applies to tech, companies want people with college and university education in Enviromental business to get paid minimum wages, and companies can find people to work for minium wages very easily. It is not like working as a nurse, where you have to be licensed to be working as a Nurse. There is no future in Environmental tech job if you want to make money.

only thing I needed was an OSHA 40-hour Hazardous Materials training... I made great money right off the street... but there is no future in this job. As you are replaceable at a moments notice.

I have 12 license and certificates in the environmental field and hazardous waste abatement. I too haven't found work directly relating to my field but as of lately I have spoken with a few companies who have responded back to me.

Most of the postings I see for jobs in my field are out of state and contractual positions which I don't have a problem going to but they don't pay per diem. There was only one job that directly related to my field that I went on a interview for but never got a call back.

Most companies want you to have a couple years of experience so even though i'm more then qualified it's a bit hard to find work.
