What is the process for becoming an escrow officer? Classes? Licenses? certifications? etc? Is there any place local to Santa Clara or San Jose where I can take the necessary classes?

If you are still wondering, I am an Escrow Officer and I learned through experience. I don't believe classes could ever teach you all that is involved in the detail of becoming an Escrow Officer. Unfortunately, the demand is low now, so no one is willing to train.

Becoming an escrow officer takes a lot of on the job training. The best thing to do is to start as a receptionist with the goal in mind to leard as much as you can and slowly move up. Others will noyice your hard work and give you more based on your work ethic and good preformance.

Good Luck!!

I agree, I started at the bottom of a Title Company long ago, and now own my own Title Insurance company in Utah. We do both Title and Escrow.

Hi Janet,
I am looking to get back in the escrow industry. I understand that Utah requires you to be licensed and I just don't know where to start to get licensed. I have worked as a Jr. Escrow Officer but mainly in the legal industry. Can you please contact me at luanaleumufonotasi@ymail.com to discuss this further. I am willing to start at the bottom (again) and work my way up. I live in Utah and am looking for an opportunity to get my foot in the door.
Thanks Janet.

There is a reliance on licensed escrow employees that is draining the field of good workers. Those who are licensed end up at brokerage houses with internal escrow departments.
The government's over-reliance makes escrow employees who already are licensed that much more unwilling to train new employees.
