Do some companies pay a lot more for this position than others? What does a top earner make in this field?

What skills should you learn to increase your salary?

It depends on the industry, size of the company, and your own skill sets. Start at $60k for hands-on tech school grads with 5-10 yrs experience to $130k for advanced degree managers in robust industries with deep technical-market requirements.
