Can I take the Series 66 (or 65 & 63) to help land a job?

I really want to get into wealth management with UBS. I was thinking that perhaps passing the 66 even though it is useless without the 7 may help give me a leg up on other applicants? Or I could take the 65 and 63 which by themselves are worth something as a Registered Financial Adviser.

Does anyone think this may be a valid strategy? I have 6 months or so before I move my family to Denver where I would work in this new field. I have an MBA + 10 years of sales as a real estate broker. I have already made inquires to UBS and Smith Barney, who both want to interview me, however I thought this would help especially with the tough UBS selection process as they are my top choice.

Hi MGNiko--I am not a hiring manager (i'm an FA) but personally I do not feel that taking the 66 will do much to help you in the interviewing process. You already have a good education along with the sales background they look for. You'll definitely get the interviews so the decision will be based on personality more than anything else.

If you want to do anything prior to the meetings I would recommend researching the industry and coming up with a marketing plan. If you walk into the interview with a clear idea of what you want and how you plan to get it....you'll get hired.
