What do you enjoy most about being a financial advisor? What do you dislike the most? Is it challenging? Are there many opportunities to learn and advance?

What keeps you at your job?

the financial job is awful!! you are under constant pressure to generate gross commissions and the performance of your investment suggestions is totally irrelevant to your financial success. You only get paid for generating gross commissions, not for helping grow their financial portfolio. this is really a lousy sales job. you have to generate at least $2000 per month in commissions just to cover your basic overhead like health insurance, gas in the car to see people, and office supplies. If you want luxuries like groceries or heat in your house, then you have to generate far more than $2K per month. There are over 200,000 financial advisors in this country, do you really think we need anymore? Unless you have some relatives with millions that will trust you to invest your money, you will spend years trying to build a practice. You will max out your credit cards, take all the money out of your savings, fall behind in your bills and in the end have to quite anyway so you can spend time finding other employment. You would be better off financially being a greeter at the local Wal Mart.

bldntp sounds like you dont try hard enough to get clients. Your first few years are very tough and you face rejection many of times(forcing many people who enters the buisness to leave) but ultimately being a financial advisor is rewarding( If your personable, determined, have street smarts) It allows you to make your own schedule so you can go watch your kids play any sports games, ect. You get to interact with people most of your day, and depending on what company you work for you can get excelent benefits and bonuses.

bldntp sounds like the typical first year person. Does not have the smarts to get out there and treat customers with respect which in turn will yield more customers. I would like to see the great at my local walmart drive the cars I drive and live in the house I live in. Be honest to your customers which you should be in a friendship like case with and keep drawing in new business with your kind of people. Work hard play hard my friend. Work at walmart and enjoy your 7.00 and hour
