I just (today) got offered a position in NWA training class starting April 29th. I was also informed that i would not be offered a home base of MSP (where I reside) but would be required to relocate/commute to SEA. Well relocating is out of the question, and i am wondering how realistic is commuting. I will be speaking with someone from HR tomorrow about the whole spiel, but is it possible for a new hire, reserve and probation to commute between these airports. What would it require/cost. i have read about crash pads and think it would be a good idea, but have no idea of cost. also is it even adviseable to do this. anyones two cents are welcome here. Thanks, Doni |

Thanks, Doni Congrats! I'm not a FA (yet) but interviewed for Delta a couple of weeks ago and NWA asked for my background check info last week. I have done some research on commuting and crash pads, as that is what I will need to do myself. From what I can see, not all cities list crash pads, but you can find them by googling, through crashpad.com or craigslist (or ask a commuting fa in SEA). At JFK, it runs about $260+/month. NWA calls it "difficult in the first year or two". As for commuting, part of the difficulty of commuting is you may not get many days off in a row, and you fly standby in seniority order. You may be able to find out how popular your route is from a current FA to see what your chances of commuting would be. For instance, when I interviewed at Delta, they said that DFW to ATL was nearly impossible for Delta FAs because DFW is no longer a base, all the FAs transferred to ATL, and there are a lot of Sr. FAs with seniority. You'd need to find that out for SEA to MSP. Of course, you'd bid to get back to MSP ASAP, so all this could only be for a year or two. With any job worth having, you have to pay your dues. It's just a matter of figuring out whether you think it would be worth it for you in the long-run. |

I am scheduled to attend an Alaska Airlines group interview (1st interview) AND a Northwest Airlines F2F interview (follows a phone interview) on the same date, ie., March 25th. I am trying to decide which would be the better choice to attend or cancel since I can't make it to both, and rescheduling either is not an option. This is the only date each are offering. (One interview is in Spokane, the other in Seattle.) Any idea which of these two airlines I would be more likely to actually get hired on with? (Referring to the airline hiring/training situations only, not to my own ability to get hired, ie.e., which airline is more likely to continue to train/hire?) Thanks in advance for any insight & feedback! P.S. I would be ecstatic to receive SEA as a domicile! I live in and love the Pacific Northwest! |

to the best of my knowledge, SEA is the only available offering from NWA at the moment. I had to turn down the offer today as my wife finally told me she didnt want me to take the job. To say the least I am pissed. I grew up in Europe and trying to get all my previous educational history and employment history was an unmitigated nightmare, which was now wasted. Maybe I need a new wife??? |

From what I understand, Northwest is not hiring right now other than from among the people already scheduled for interviews, although it's also possible that they will continue to schedule interviews from the applications already received. As far as what bases they are hiring for - I have no idea. My face to face is scheduled for Tuesday morning and I assume they'll say something about it then. If so, I'll be glad to let you know what I find out. And Doni - I probably would have accepted the job and spent the time before leaving for training buying your wife shoes, flowers, etc. and trying to convince her. But that's just me. Can you give any advice for the f2f that we might not know already? There isn't a lot of info about NWA on these boards. - I'm sorry you felt you had to turn it down and hope you try again with an airline that will put you close to home. |

I just (today) got offered a position in NWA training class starting April 29th. I was also informed that i would not be offered a home base of MSP (where I reside) but would be required to relocate/commute to SEA. I would have to say that I find it hard to believe that HR is going to make you commute. Although it is perfectly allowable to commute, during training, they tell you that you should not commute during training. MSP is a huge base, and I believe they were accepting applicants for MSP. Often times when you go to training, you will hear different things, but once you see it in writing, it is golden. So far as accepting people into the program, I believe they fill the classes for a period of a few months, and then put it on hold. then they restart. They say, telephone, tell a friend, tell a flight attenedent. Until you see it in writing, or until your manager tells you, I would wait to worry about it. |

Hi Iola, I was offered to start training April 29th for NWA also and my biggest concern is the commute. I do believe that after time you can relocate to a base closer to your home so I'm hoping that will happen. I will probably have to commute home during training for a day or two to check on my kids. I've heard about the crash pads and I will probably seek one so that I don't have to uproot and move my family to Seattle. |

I need to clarify my original posting, I would have completed training at MSP but would need to commute/relocate to be based out of SEA as a FA. I currently turned the position down. In answer to th previous question regarding the face to face interview, it is very easy, divided into two parts, the first is more of a face to face vetting, a giving and taking of general personal information and so forth. The actual bones of the FTF is quite similar to the telephone interview, it is one of the easier ones I have had. |

[Congratulations on NWA) When you do speak with the recruiter just make sure your class is still going to be April 29, as there was a big article out today about NWA suspending hiring Pilots and Flight attendants... |

I am under the impression that this training class is for the SEA hub only. I do plan on attending the training class my self. I have been studding my ATO codes every day. |

No unfortunately I will not be attending the class as it is only for SEA hub. Training in MSP would have been fine however the my wife said she didnt want to relocate or have me commuting so I had to turn down the offer. i hope everything goes well in the class and good luck. |
