Are jobs in this industry on the rise? Are there any sub-sectors that are growing?

Where are the jobs? Which places have the most front desk clerk opportunities?

I think jobs as a front desk clerk has a high turnover rate. People don't like to deal with whiny, rude guests. Also, the pay is not that great but, the experience will pay off.

I think in places like Florida, California, New York offers great front desk oppurtunities. Working for big hotels like Hyatt, Marriott, Ramada offers excellent benefits and are more opt to provide training.

Here in the DC area, we have a major hotel opening in April 2008, the Gaylord hotel. It's major and there were about 27,000+ applicants. I did not apply though because I'm just getting in the industry. I'd rather study first and then go out and seek employment with the big chains. In the meantime, I'm just working part-time at another great hotel, just not as big.
